Arabic Word Study
Learning Arabic has been a foundational key to our Quranic studies. In many instances, the English doesn't do the scripture any justice.
The student doesn't have to feel pressured to learn how to speak or read Arabic initially. What's more important is learning how to translate words.
Word Study SOP
Step I
Identify the Root
الجذر
Strip the Arabic word down to its tri-literal (three-letter) or quadri-literal root, utilizing tools like Corpus Quran.
Step II
Explore the Lexicon
المصطلح
Search the root in an Arabic student dictionary and use the "explore root" function to find all possible conceptual definitions, rather than relying on a single surface-level English translation. Combining these definitions allows for a long-form translation.
Step III
Calculate the Abjad Value
الحساب
Use the (Arabic numerology) to assign a specific numerical value to the root letters and calculate their total sum.
Step IV
Cross-Reference Numbers & Frequencies
التقابل
Compare the word's Abjad value to how many times the word appears in the text, its chapter numbers, or other words sharing the exact same numerical sum to uncover hidden parallels.
